Born and raised in Ponte Vedra beach, Florida, Tempest Manthei first arrived in Glenwood Springs in 2008 to work as a camp counselor at Anderson Camps - and quickly realized she had found her forever home. Driven by a passion for helping others, Tempest earned her nursing degree and now serves as Valley View Hospital’s Wound and Ostomy Certified Nurse, providing essential support to the local community.

An artist with formal studies in painting and illustration, her mediums range from watercolor, acrylic, charcoal and mixed media techniques. Tempest’s creative career has recently burst into full bloom. Known for her giant, floral paintings on canvas, some of her works are proudly hosted at Riviera Supper Club and Scratch Kitchen. 

Tempest also hosts regular paint-and-sip events at Native Son and has donated her time and artwork, thoughtfully named, “Heartwork” to other charitable local events, helping to make art accessible, joyful, and community-driven. Her commissioned works span child nursery decor, custom pet portraits, heirloom family landscapes, and personalized greeting cards—each crafted with her signature warmth, color, and attention to detail.

A recent collaboration with her children was the catalyst for a sold-out series. Future projects include writing and illustrating her first children’s book—a natural extension of her storytelling spirit and artistic depth.

This year, Tempest was honored to create the official branding artwork for Glenwood Springs’ iconic Strawberry Days Festival which features an homage of local scenes in our theme “Through the Eyes of Locals.” 

Through her growing creative business, Columbines to Creatures LLC, Tempest Manthei isn’t just creating artwork—she’s creating lasting memories and vibrant connections.
