Get cash back for energy efficiency, solar energy upgrades
A new pool of rebate funding for energy efficiency upgrades is now available for households and businesses in Glenwood Springs and western Garfield County.
“We are offering these cash rebates on a first come, first served basis. Your best bet is to call an energy coach today to get started,” said Maisa Metcalf, an energy coach for CLEER: Clean Energy Economy for the Region. Coaching is offered in English and Spanish.
The rebate funding for 2014 is provided by Glenwood Springs Electric and by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Supplemental Environmental Program. Garfield Clean Energy, a partnership of 10 local governments, provides the free energy coaching services that help people take advantage of these rebates.
CLEER provides energy coaching expertise and manages the energy rebate programs for Glenwood Springs Electric and Garfield Clean Energy.
For households, rebates are provided for qualifying projects that include air sealing, insulation, programmable thermostats and heat tape timers, as well as for high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, whole house fans, water heaters and LED lighting.
CLEER is also teaming up with the Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE) to provide comprehensive Energy Smart home assessments for Glenwood Springs Electric customers. These assessments include health and safety testing and quick fix items to help the homeowner start saving right away.
For businesses and commercial properties, including multi-family housing, energy coaches will conduct a free building walk-through and provide recommendations for the most cost-effective energy upgrades.
Rebates for businesses can be used for a variety of projects that can reduce costs for electricity, natural gas and propane. These include lighting, refrigeration, heating, cooling, building controls, insulation, motors, engine block timers and heat tape timers.
Glenwood Springs Electric customers can also reserve rebates for installing solar electric systems on a residential or commercial property.
For households and business from Parachute to New Castle, the new Garfield Clean Energy bonus rebates can be combined with rebates offered by energy utilities such as Xcel Energy, and Holy Cross Energy.
For households and businesses in the Glenwood Springs and Carbondale area, bonus rebates are offered by CORE’s Energy Smart program.
Together, the utility rebates combined with community bonus rebates from Garfield Clean Energy or CORE can cover up to 50 percent of project costs, although dollar limits do apply.
“Increasing the energy efficiency of your home or business will save money on utility bills and increase comfort. The rebates make your smart investment even more affordable,” said Metcalf.
“Our free energy coaching service makes it easy for you get started with your energy upgrades,” she added.
