Hanging Lake is a crystal-clear, turquoise blue lake that is a short, steep, but rewarding hike that starts in Glenwood Canyon. Read more about hiking at Hanging Lake.
This glacially formed lake suspended at the edge of Glenwood Canyon with stunning waterfalls that descend into a limestone lake full of trout and crystal clear water. It can be accessed year-round from Glenwood Canyon, with its trailhead about ten miles east of Glenwood Springs.
It’s a mile to the top and 1000 feet up, and takes about an hour and half round-trip. Five minutes beyond the lake is Spouting Rock, which is not to be missed once the lake is attained.
Summer 2010, the White River National Forest completed a restoration project to the Hanging Lake Trail. With improved railings and a new viewing platform, be sure to visit Glenwood Springs to hike or snowshoe the popular trail year-round, now even more beautiful and more accessible than ever!
