Disc Golf

Fans of the Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley Campus disc golf course say it's one of the best courses anywhere.

The course is designed by PDGA Pro player TJ Laurence and is maintained by the Roaring Fork Disc Golf Club. It is approximately 2 miles long and winds through moderate mountain terrain, sage, pine and cedar trees. Majestic Mount Sopris is clearly visible in the distance.

The course has 18 professionally designed holes with Innova DISCatcher Pro baskets. The well maintained walking trails and concrete tee pads make the course playable year round. The CMC course is home to the Colorado Open Disc Golf Championships, a popular annual tournament held at the course.

You may be wondering just what disc golf is. It's a lot like traditional golf, except players use specially made plastic flying discs instead of balls and clubs, and throw them for 'par' at an above-ground target instead of a hole in the ground. There are different types of discs used for different purposes, much like ball golfers use different clubs.

The object of the game is to throw a golf disc into the target, typically a steel basket over which chains hang, in the fewest number of throws. The player begins by 'driving' from a designated tee area and continues toward the target, throwing each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw has landed. Finally, a successful 'putt' sends the disc into the target.
