The Roaring Fork Business Resource Center (RFBRC) needs community input from local entrepreneurs, borrowers and investors to help create a framework and implementation strategy to develop local investing opportunities. Please attend local discussion groups and take RFBRC’s local investing survey!
Our definition of local investing is based on economic and social values -- jobs, a healthy tax base, charitable giving, civic engagement, quality of life, and sense of place and identity. In many areas of the country, people may be taking advantage of more opportunities to buy and eat locally, but they have not given much thought or figured out how to invest locally. And, since the financial crisis, traditional funding sources for small businesses – savings, friends and family, venture capital, and bank credit and loans – have become scarce, and there is no easy way for individual investors to find opportunities to put money into small, local businesses in need of capital.
We are looking to create opportunity to introduce local stakeholders to local micro-financing/investing opportunities to local businesses and to develop creative financing alternatives and vehicles for businesses to access capital such as individual investors, business loan funds, and/or local investment groups.
